Southern Autos PCT Report - Sunday 18th February 2001

This round of the MSA & BTRDA PCT Championships was attempted by three members of Watling Motor Sports Club. Graham Raeburn and Jamie Turner shared Graham's Mini, on the cars first competitive outing and both drivers first ever PCT. Owen Turner, with bouncer Fiona Duncan, was driving his second PCT, but the first in his Imp. Needless to say with this level of experience, success was not high on the list of priorities against a quality entry. However enjoying ourselves and having fun was.
The venue at Brickhil had quite a variety of surfaces using both sides of a valley. Four rounds of eight hills were attempted by all the competitors. The difficult conditions (at least they seemed difficult to us), meant scores on most hills were not particularly low. However by lunch, all three of us had enjoyed getting to the top of at least one hill. Owen was slightly ahead on points, with Graham just edging ahead of Jamie. During the afternoon the grip seemed to improve in places as conditions dried out, in other places the churned up mud made conditions worse! Despite Jamie beating Graham on the final round, Graham just pipped Jamie in the Mini battle, Owen was further ahead, but all three of us had been soundly beaten by the expert crews. One of the most exciting bits of the day, was getting back to the paddock, this required a number of attempts for many crews! A good enjoyable days motorsport.
